Ray-Ban wayfarers, The Rebirth of Cool

wayfarer sunglasses

Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses have been around since 1952 and have helped define cool ever since. The original design was a radical change from the heavy wire metal sunglasses that came before. This difference made them an instant hit with young people. Audrey Hepburn was one famous wearer along with James Dean and Roy Orbison.  Though initial marketed as menswear, it was women who helped push the glasses to household name status. The frenzy for Ray-Ban Wayfarer hit it’s peak in the 1960s then went into decline during the disco era of the 70s.

From a design point of view the Ray-Ban Wayfarer broke all the rules. The shape was new as was the use of plastics. That same innovation of style is what helped revive the flagging sales of the 1970s. In the early 80s Ray-Ban started placing their sunglasses in popular movies and TV shows. Thanks to films like Risky Business and television’s Miami Vice, a whole new generation of fans took to the classic Wayfarer. Now fashion mavens and hipsters alike embrace Ray-Ban.

If you are shopping around for a real pair of wayfarer sunglasses do a google search and see what you can find.  You will spend around $100 for a pair of Ray Ban brand.  If you are looking for a deal and don’t care about the name search for wholesale wayfarer sunglasses, this will get you great deals from sunglass wholesalers.
